“We have to raise hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars to cover every child that needs us every year since we’re the only free organization in the world,” she said.
She also said CWHL accepts hair donations from individuals who send them a donation form that is available on their website, childrenwithhairloss.us along with their hair.
ABS attendee, Fawn Julsaint said that she was really intrigued by CWHL. She said CWHL allowed ABS attendees the opportunity to have their hair cut on stage and donate their hair to kids with cancer.

One facial service inspired Bettye O. Day Spa owner Bettye Odom to introduce skin care to the African-American community after pursuing a nursing and acting career.

I had my first facial and when I saw how different my skin looked, I fell in love with it,” she said.

Odom has been referred to as a “beauty veteran” by Ebony magazine and Milwaukee spa owner of Kosmik Kare Day Spa Kanika Ward told The Business Journals in 2007 that Odom was her mentor.

She is wonderful and has wise insight on how to adjust to the market” she said of Odom. Ward also said that Odom has been in the business for more than 30 years,” Ward said of Odom.

According to Bettye O. Day Spa website, bettyeodayspa.com Odom introduced in 1978 after she returned from studying in Paris.

Before she became a spa professional, she attended Fisk University, Meharry Medical College and completed a year of graduate work at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, according to BettyeO.DaySpa website, bettyeodayspa.com.

The website also states that Odom was a nurse in the United States Army Corps and was cast in a TV Pilot program called“Night Watch.”

According to Odom her educational and career experience gave her a jump start in the spa industry. ”So because I'm a registered nurse...all I had to learn was technique and product,...and that's what I went to France for,” said Odom.

Although Odom said she never experienced any challenges in the spa industry or in life, she did  that say getting individuals to understand the importance of skin care is her on ongoing work.“The skin itself is an organ that needs work,"she said.

According to Odom, skin care is important because they  are "self-services."

”So, once you walk out of here, you feel good about yourself.” She also said that the skin care 'self-services' can empower a person to then lift up somebody else.

“You ought to be able to come to a day spa, and then pay the light bill afterwards, then you don't mind going to work, “she said.

The “spa veteran” who has pursued different career paths throughout her life time believes “life itself is just a road that you need to go down” and according to Odom “you map out your life.”
